The Dalton Dulcimers
Learn more about the dulcimer, a fretted string folk instrument. Usually associated with southern Appalachia, the instrument, began to appear in the area during the 19th century amongst Scotch-Irish immigrants. There is little recorded history about its origins, leading to speculation that ingenious immigrants created them based on similar European instruments. The Dalton Dulcimers will give a performance and answer questions about this true American creation.
The Dalton Dulcimers began playing together in 2009 as a ministry of Dalton First United Methodist Church. The group’s repertoire includes Celtic airs, Appalachian folk music, gospel tunes, waltzes and even some early rock rock and roll, which they perform for local civic groups, church services and other public gatherings.
Included with Museum admission.
