Prohibition & Moonshine in Cobb County
The history of “moonshining” can be traced back to the failing economy of the post-Civil War South. Phillip Ivester, with the Concord Covered Bridge Historic District, will discuss the history of moonshining in Cobb County, the local economy and general feelings about prohibition and the federal government at that time.
Philip Ivester serves as CEO of Kennesaw based energy management firm HI Solutions. His passion for Cobb County history began during his childhood growing up in the the historic Martin Luker Ruff house near the Concord Woolen Mill in Smyrna. He is president of the Friends of the Concord Covered Bridge Historic District, treasurer of the Smyrna Historical Society and has conducted research into the history of the forgotten 19th-century communities of Concord, Millgrove, Nickajack and Tillman communities in Smyrna
