The community is invited to join in Art Hatch, a vibrant celebration of art and nature, on Saturday, April 19, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Depot Park (2828 Cherokee Street). This event is part of the community-wide Art Blooms initiative and will feature a variety of interactive activities, art installations, and live performances for all ages.
At 11 AM, families with children ages 3 and up can enjoy The Great Pollinator Count interactive story time and Pollinator Census. Award-winning author Susan Edwards Richmond and Becky Griffin from the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension will introduce children to insect pollinator groups through Richmond’s The Great Pollinator Count and hands-on activities. After the story time, participants will have the opportunity to practice their own pollinator count in a nearby garden area.
Visitors can explore exhibits and activities throughout the event. The North Cobb Library table, led by Makers Space Manager Vidhya Jagannathan, will offer crafts and books, while the Southern Museum will feature a Victorian flower pressing activity led by Amy Torrance. The Kennesaw State University Fabric and Textiles Department will have an exhibit booth with a fashion show at 1 p.m., and the KSU Beauty Project will present immersive theater performances at 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM. Live performances by the Cobb County Schools Fine Arts Department will take place throughout the day, and the Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre will perform improv dance. Huckadoo Pizza will be available for purchase.
Admission to the Art Hatch event is free, and participants are encouraged to RSVP through the Smith-Gilbert Gardens website at https://ticketscandy.com/e/art-hatch-3709.
As part of the Art Blooms initiative, a scavenger hunt will take place from April to May. Participants can pick up scavenger hunt cards at various locations, including 1885 Grill, Apotheos Roastery, the Brain Station, Cottontail Quilt Shop, Frozen Cow Creamery, Honeysuckle Biscuits & Bakery, Horned Owl Brewing, Lazy Guy Distillery, Main Street Eats, Smith-Gilbert Gardens, the Southern Museum, and Turquoise Otter.
